Opinion on Fancy Suit Linings

What are people's thoughts on fancy suit linings? - I always get a bright pink or orange, or maybe even a patterned blue lining sometimes. The reasoning, naturally, is that I always button my jacket so the bold lining is hidden from others and its simply a touch I enjoy.

Just wondering how others on the Board felt? - do most of you opt for the self-lining option?

i personally also like sharp contrast with linings..
however, the best colour of lining that i managed to get was similar to british racing green..

Definitely a nice personal touch.I think the British tailors started the trend with the flamboyant linings.Today, many of them have their own "signature" lining colors/stripes.

Fun and not-unconservative.

Over there, Paul Smith has made a gimmick out of them.

On this side, Chipp/Winston was the most color-oriented of the Am Trad places, and they did them fairly frequently.

I have typically selected linings that are consistent with the fabric of my suiting. However, going forward I've decided to adopt a dark green lining on my suits (assuming I can get it). Kind of refernce to my alma mater, Dartmouth.

I'm not a huge fan of loud linings generally, though.

Ugh, dispicable. It's not safe at all to assume that no one will see your lining. One thing that always bugged me about Agent Smith in The Matrix 1 was that his jacket had a garish gold lining which can be clearly seen when he fights Neo in the subway. Surely your jacket lining will be visible when you take off or put on your jacket -- or if you ever get into fights on the subway.

I grew out of it -- as Richard James seems to have. Now I just order deep burgundy linings on my suits.

Wow - if you think a solid color lining is dispicable you'll cringe when you see some of the stuff I've gotten

Its a given that people will see the lining when you put on/remove the lining but its perfectly fine otherwise. Panzer

For a grey suit, I like a white lining with pinstripes. Something that is about as conservative as what I would on a dress shirt.
