I know this is sound advice but the main thing is cranked is not going to fly unless I can get a low power head. This little cheap 5w tube head has convinced me that's going to be my path. Still really thinking that Fargen next fall with a nice cab...

For an indie project I picked up my Jaguar again, which is totally awesome, but I was wrong about the usefulness of the original bridge - it really does need a mastery. The strings slip otherwise.

i've been debating moving the '65 from Upstate to NYC. Lack of space has me thinking otherwise. I'd send the JTM45 back up.

I bought a Celestion 12" Greenback M on Amazon yesterday and then I cancelled it. It's $125 and I paid considerably less than that for my Kustom cab. The cab is very well built though so I figured dropping in the Greenback would make for a pretty good 1x12. Don't know why I had second thoughts on that.

Buy an old speaker.

If you buy an EVM 12 you can use any head that you'll ever buy.

Plus everybody knows that old speakers sound way better.

i don't know how much that would have improved sound though. not to sound snotty, but the 5 is a super simple one-dimention amp, i'm not sure it would push out the frequencies that would require a high quality and dynamic speaker. I could be totally wrong on this.



speaker cabs are one of the easiest things to find on craigslist. there's almost always a 1960A for the cheap.

Any thoughts on the Vox VT20+ vs the Fender Mustang amps?
The mustangs seem pretty cool although I don't like that you need to use the PC software to control most of the features.

The Mustang II is only a little more expensive than the Vox and has a 12" speaker, but I think it might take up too much space for me (and its not like I will be playing it loud anyways).
Seems like the Mustang I isn't as good though, and the Vox would be a better option if you aren't going for the Mustang II.

Haven't tried the mustangs, but I liked how the Vox sounded (and the power scaling seemed to work well for keeping it quiet). Also liked the built in pedel effects on the Vox--was fun to play around with effects I would probably never buy a pedal for but might want to mess around with occasionally.

speaker cabs are one of the easiest things to find on craigslist. there's almost always a 1960A for the cheap.

It was more just the thought of having a solidly built 1x12 cab I can use for years with whatever I get (something tells me this will not be the last low watt head I get) and that I can bring with me if I ever jam outside the house. I also figure that if I end up with that Fargen next year I'll get the 2x12 so it's a little bigger for lugging around to a jam session.

When I mentioned a Princeton, Harvard or Champ I'm talking about the tweed versions. They were all very popular studio amps. Lots of famous solos were done with one of these. Everyone from Steve Cropper to Eric Clapton.

If a true vintage version is out of your budget, perhaps you would have fun building a high quality kit version?

I might think about selling you my VT20+. Not sure if I want to keep it at this point.

Edit: Just went and looked how much I paid for it. Yeah, probably not worth it for either of us giving cost of shipping.
