Of the high end British RTW guys, Lobb has, hands down, the ugliest collection. Some of those shoes are uglier than what Kenneth Cole does.

This is true. But the Philip II is a work of art.

Honestly, if I had to pick from their standard offerings, and I could finally get the right sizing in EG, I would pick EG over Lobb nine out of ten times.

Of course, that hypothetical is assuming the OneShoe is out of the picture.

I've spent some time talking to Philippe Atienza, who ran the Lobb Paris bespoke atelier, now that he is at Massaro, and he agrees with us about the Lobb Paris RTW designs, which got more gimmicky (sorry :foo and even uglier around the time he was leaving. Ironically, the RTW shoes he has designed for Massaro are some of the most beautiful RTW shoes around, and some of the most beautifully finished.

Lobb RTW's ugliness isn't completely new though -- the Campus and Lopez are some of the fugliest penny loafers imaginable.

Since you're in Italy somewhat frequently, why don't you just pick out a bespoke maker there?

really? why is that? i have one pair, and i feel the lack of belt makes me look even fatter, not to mention i find myself tightening the adjusters all day.

Only flexible plastic collar stays (thanks Gavin) or none (thanks to a canny shirtcutter). Brass ones are awful, bone ones snap...

No cuffs on trousers, ever -- that's not a rule I'd impose on others, but it's a rule I live by.

Steel toe plates on all shoes. RTW, bespoke, whatever.

if only wore RTW makers offered that.

TBH I thought the blue blazer is one of the most versatile tailored garments there is. I avoid wearing them with grey trousers though, the security guard look.

Most everything goes with everything else. Not literally. You still can't wear your white FC shirt with tweed and not look like a fool.

This reminds me of when I gently made that very point a couple of times to Victor in Waywrn and got lynched by the mob of maverick sycophants there. And people wonder why that thread was abandoned by serious posters... Asylum taken over by the crazies...

its almost impossible to learn much in that thread anymore. its kind of a shame really. now you have to find the secret waywrn threads to learn a thing or two. poor n00bs. almost dont stand a chance.

I started hanging out on SF back in early 08, when Manton, Whnay, Foo, Iammatt, Guido, Bmulford and even Ethandesu were still quite actively posting in that thread.

Times sure have changed...

Hopefully these last two weeks marks a return to form.
