Do any of you guys have a goggle company that you would recommend? I got my Bell 500 in the mail today and absolutely love it, so now I'm on the hunt for some vintage inspired goggles that you can wear with glasses on. I've searched the googles and have only been coming up with the swimming style goggles that wouldn't be possible to wear with glasses.

Aviators are the ones you're looking for. Buy an extra strap if you order them. It'll stretch out faster than you think.

So I need a replacement helmet, let's I dropped my last one and its bin at the dumpster for two weeks now... I was going to go with an AFX FX100 given the price and ECE 22.05 standard, however it doesn't fit my head. I omitted all Scorpions because they either have flip down visors which thins the shell or aren't available in all white.

This leaves me with Shoei/ARAI mostly based on my headshape. The local dealer has the QWEST for $340ish and the X12 for $497. Both prices are good, the X12 is about $100 cheaper than anywhere else. Should I justify the $160 for the safety feature of the emergency quick release system?

Why is this a problem? Seems to me that if they designed them to pass DOT/Snell with those visors, then they are probably just as good as helmets without the visors.

I borrowed a Scorpion helmet with a flip down visor once and thought it was kind of a cool feature. Not something I would use all that often but would be nice to have when the sun is in just the right (wrong) place.

True. Pricey. But I had a pair, and they're very nice. Comfortable. And offer a pretty good field of vision. Only complaint was the strap stretched out pretty quickly. Does your helmet have the goggle strap retainer on the back?

No, it's just flat on the back. I have a cheapy pair of amber goggles that have been doing their job, but they just look a bit goofy. I'm hoping that once I get a cool leather jacket then it will offset my general odd ball look.

I should have been more specific- the EXO 400, EXO 700 are DOT 2005 standards. I wanted at least DOT 2010 standards.

Supposedely ECE 22.05 are more strict, not sure if one compares DOT 2010 to ECE 22.05 standards we are splitting hairs.

Because they pass the standard doesn't make them equally safe. All things equal, the helmet without the space removed to accomodate the visor is probably safer?

Edit- I bit the bullet and went for the Roland Sands jacket, even though it means I'll be on a ramen diet for the next month. I'll post some pictures when I get it.

^^^^ any of the honda cb's/ yamaha sr's would work well for you. The CB's are the easiest to come by, though they seem to be fetching a premium these days. a 70's cb 360 might be a good fit. Up the CC's accordingly for "increased badassness"...

you may be able to find a bmw r or k bike in that price range. few bikes have a better track record of reliability.

Hmm... Right at the end of my commute this morning, my bike started stumbling at about 4.5k or 5k RPM (although it seems to only be under load/in higher gears)

My first thought is that my carb diaphragms have slipped again (it happened once aid it meant that the needle couldn't lift as high with open throttle and thus it would behave funny at that point). Doesn't look like I can get the right screws off without taking the carbs off the bike though

Kind of a pain to get the carbs out of this bike so then I might as well give them a bit of a cleaning and replace my fuel lines with clear tubing and a filter in case that is what is gunking up the works.

Awesome. It will be a piece of gear you'll want to wear. Hell, it's more than a piece of gear; it's a lifestyle enhancement. Even looks cool if you take the armor out and wear it in colder months. Did you get the Ronin in tobacco?

I'm debating whether or not to hit mine with a little Obenauf's LP. Hmmm...
