Making Room For New Shoes

Do any of you give away/throw away shoes that are still perfectly good but you are tired of them?

I find myself wanting more upscale and interesting shoes, e.g. light brown alligator, and am pretty tired of my very plain looking Tod loafers and a few other things. The things I am tired of would more than likely not be of interest to members, as I bought them before knowing anything or developing some discrimination.

How do you do this without a guilty conscience? Larry.

Actually giving away my good used shoes to charity maybe a good reason to buy new shoes...thats one justification i use to buy new ones.

There is no guilty conscience when you are giving up well kept items you will hardly use and donating them to people who need/like them...

That's just one small cornerstone of being a good person..

I live by an idea that we do not own anything... we are just holding on to it for the next generation. Speeding up the process can be a positive thing.

If they're nice shoes, and lightly worn, the needy might get more use out of the proceeds from selling them than from the shoes themselves. There's no shortage of worn clothing, and much of what gets donated to thrift shops just gets resold anyway. If you did the selling, you could donate the proceeds to your favorite charity.

Last year I sold all of my used pre-Styleforum shoes for a surprisingly good sum on ebay. Just clean them up, stick shoe trees in them, and take some nice pictures.

I agree with what Shikar and Kgrimm say. I am totally for free enterprise and re-selling
items, but for me the guilt would lie in selling shoes for money I don't really need. Donating is a great way to go. I feel better already! Larry.

In a similar vein, do all of you save your boxes and bags? I have done this for quite some time, and I am getting ready to dispose of them; I just can't seem to do it, though. Thoughts?

how about offering them up here on styleforum?

there are always threads started by young members like myself on what a good shoe is or how to get them cheap. i have seen a couple threads in the B/S section giving away ties and shirts.

im sure your shoes given to members of the forum that are in need would be taken care of very well and they would be very appreciative.

I had to make room for a couple of acquisitions earlier this year and chose to give 2 very rarely worn Magnannis to a young friend of mine starting out in the corporate world. His sincere appreciation was worth the giving.

This is what I'm trying to do at the moment, gradually.

I'm testing the waters with a single pair on eBay for now, but if it goes well, I might add a few more. I'm all for donating stuff if you want, but I tend to do that for things like old shirts or whatever, that don't really have much of a resale value esp. if they have any little marks. For shoes that have plenty of wear left and are otherwise in good nick, I figure: why not try to get a few bucks for them?

I do this regularly. My favorite charity is People for the Expansion of AlanC's Wardrobe (PEAW).

I routinely donate shoes to charity that I have no interest in ever wearing again. I don't donate shoes to make room for more, instead I just add more shelves to my closet.
