what is the quality like for most uniqlo collab stuff? I've never bought uniqlo, but I really like a few of the outer wear pieces.

Between APC and normal Uniqlo, I'd say. Better than H&M.

I'm off October 2nd. Hopefully there will be something left if I head down there, although I'm not quite sure I can rationalize a two hour drive for a $200 suit. Then again I really want the light gray wool flannel suit.

I don't know about the collabo stuff but in general I go down a size from my Japanese bought items when I shop from the NY store.
