Invited to some "Millionaires Ball" in the Upper East Side. What should I wear?

Forget the red tie.

Perhaps a red pocket square, or boutonniere?

Or some seasonal studs and cufflinks, if not too garish.

Don't do the red tie unless it is an 80s Theme Party.

I'd go with standard black tie but make your date wear red . . . .

The tux is fine, but I think you´d be on the safe side with a white linen square and a black bow tie. I feel that semi-formal evening wear should stand out by virtue of its simplicity and quality rather than by gimmicky details.

I also feel that you'll stand out with a white linen square and black bow tie rather than a red tie or ps. A red flower in your lapel would add a nice touch. Besides, other men are likely to sport a red tie or ps.
