What’s the rise? Do you wear suspenders?

I think the angle that Alan used also added to the drama.
@An Acute Style @lordsuperb

Also take into account the overall cut. Mine are cut very full with a very high rise from top to bottom (9.75”).

A straight cut won’t yield the same silhouette even with a 9.5” opening like Lord Superb’s.

I will assume the rise you indicated is a typo...

That’s the leg opening not the rise ...

Something that will always bug me about most new trousers even if the rise is high...the zip fly or button fly are always very short and don't reach down close enough to the fork or crotch line of the trousers.
Big facts.

I wear 8UK shoes and a 32 waist trousers now and I will share some pictures here for @An Acute Style with different leg openings on different trousers. I started wearing wide leg trousers 9,5"-11" when I first started buying vintage suits and then tried narrow leg trousers 7,25"- 8". As of now I have a bit of both but I no longer favor the exaggerated leg opening because with my feet and figure it looks kind of funny and is not flattering.

As of today the maximum leg opening I'll wear is around 24cm(9,5") which is the cut from Scott Fraser Collection I've been wearing for more than 3 years and the same leg opening on most of my 1930s vintage trousers and some late 1920s I own.

A few photos:

German 1920s suit trousers 32" waist, 8,5" leg opening, 8 UK oxfords.

Nice, I was gonna say I think Scott's wide-leg trousers look very cool.

Yeah, I’ve been wanting to get a pair of Scott’s wide-legged pants for a while. One thing I wonder: with a small waist (30"), might a 9.5" leg opening almost look like... a flare? Or at least optically straight, with no visible taper at all?

Dumb question, but is changing (making it smaller) the leg-opening of a pair of trousers as simple as taking in the seam? I recall reading somewhere that changing the leg opening is hard/not advised but that doesn't make a lot of sense on second thought..should be easy for a tailor right?

EDIT: 7.5 btw, as a pretty short guy.

Honestly shocked by how many people are going with 7”. I would love to see some pictures of this. Maybe I should have included a 6.5” option. I’d also love to see a picture of a 10.5”.

The data is looking pretty normally distributed with a slight left skew. Hard to tell without a 6.5 or 6 option. If that’s your go to, chime in. Include pics.

Honestly I think this forum tends to be on the conservative side. I’m 22 and I never wear a suit. If I ever see someone my age wearing 19,5cm (7,7”) trousers I’m 100% assuming they’re a virgin.

This is a very lightweight linen by the way. Probably not the best example to show the drape.

I'm not a tailor, but tapering from the knee down is a pretty common alteration. I used to have it done all the time on RTW trousers.
