I do 7.75" or 8" on odd trousers. Waist is 30 and shoe size US 9.

I go a little wider for suits, but I haven't ordered a proper suit in such a long time, I'm not sure what I ask for on those. Casual suit trousers I treat like odd trousers.

Around 8" - 8.5"
Shoe size 10us, waist 36".
I think how tall you are also plays a role. My trouser inseam is around 35".

8" lately, but I'm thinking of going up to 8.25".

I like 8 or 8,25. I’m 6,1 with 36 waist, 32.5 inseam and size 10 shoe.

I find the interplay with the knee width critical as its tightness at the mid-calf that can kill the drape for me. I have one or two things with sub 8" openings (e.g. Drakes flannels) that are fine because they taper more sharply from a fuller cut at the knee. The Drakes trousers taper from 10" at the knee to 7.75" at the ankle which is a very distinctive look. Otherwise anything with an opening less than 8" is pretty much guaranteed to bunch on the calves as the knee will typically be around 9".

So we're looking for a multi-variable function.

f(height, shoe size, waist size) = leg opening for some function f.

Does pant rise matter as well? Wider opening for higher rise pants?

For me, the main proportion is about the upper thigh to the cuff. I like a tapered look. So if the leg opening is a bit wider, I prefer the top half to be a bit roomier, probably with deeper pleats. That way, you still get some shape to the leg line.

I found this too

"With the current style trends, I go by Shoe size + 6.5 - 7 for Flat Fronts and +7.5 - 8 on Pleated. "

Nine inches. Because you should add age into the equation. I'm 75 and don't want to look like an asshole in pegged pants. Incidentally, I am an asshole, but chose to disquise that fact with a breezy nine-inch opening.

Also nine. Because neck-bearded incel millenials know a lot about craft beer, and dick about style.
