How to style Velvet Armani Jacket as blazer for friends wedding

Hello,

I have this Armani jacket that was given to me. I am going to get it tailored soon and will finally be wearing it to an outdoor winter wedding. I havent worn it yet because I don't know how to approach wearing it. As it being a wedding, I obviously don't want to show off too much and want to be a bit more reserved. It is a Midnight blue color, almost military style jacket. It is velvet texture and soft. The buttons come all the way up to the neck line as well so it almost comes across like a hybrid blazer and jacket. My fiance will be wearing maroon and I was thinking no tie underneath. Would a simple fitted white button up work here?(Button all the way to top here for sleeker look?) Maybe a pocket square out of the jacket for some color texture? Black pant or try to match? Thank you for any suggestions. I just really want to do this coat justice and have been dying to finally bust it out

The band collar on that jacket is very unusual and I recommend finding a more traditional garment for a wedding, such as a sport coat or a suit in navy or gray. Assuming this is not your wedding, another couple's wedding is not the time for you to wear unusual things since the attention should be on the people who are giving their vows.

Horses for courses, but I would not want to be the only person in a velvet, band collar jacket in a sea of blue and grey suits when the photos are taken, potentially taking attention from two people's big day. Even if there were some similar oddballs in the crowd, I'd rather be the person who dressed conservatively and respectfully for the event.

I think it would be an unusual choice for a wedding. Particularly if you’re going as a guest.

I have a similar jacket I bought in Shanghai years ago. While I have pretty much outgrown my attachment to Cultural Revolution chic, I still wear it occasionally--always with a silk shirt and my vintage 1960s Mao wristwatch. I would not wear it to a wedding.
