White hots on the left, red hots on the right (in Western NY, hot dogs are commonly called "hots", while our friends in Syracuse call them "coneys"). They're beef and pork dogs in a natural casing that pops open when they are grilled. mmmmmm
I think I've gotten these at Wegman's in Maryland. Pretty good.
Where I grew up in NJ, there was a type of hot dog (odoreater, where are ya, bro?) called an Italian. Jimmy Buff's made it famous. You deep fry a hot dog in like fifty-year old oil, not fast and hard, but a slow simmer. You slap it on a quarter-round of pizza bread, and cover with deep fried potatoes, onions, and peppers. Serve with mustard and ketchup. Mindblowing.

At the risk of losing the respect of anyone who respects me, my mom is from South Orange and that entire side of the family won't shut up about Jimmy Buff's. For grilling, we always buy Thumann's. I think they top them with some jarred stuff--Sabrett's?
Now I live near DC, where the sausage of choice is the half smoke, a pork/beef sausage with onions, mustard, and chili.
