1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

It does, and it has been pointed out before. I didn't think it would be much of an issue in the UK, but you do see veterans wearing their regimental tie quite often. I double checked my tie collection, and luckily I don't any ties that resemble any. It would be a bit disrespectful to wear a tie that closely resembles one that someone has worked very hard for.

Anyways, outside of the UK that tie has little symbolical value, so I wouldn't stop wearing it.

I won't wear it in the UK, but I will probably wear it again in the U.S. Having been in the Army myself I can understand the protectiveness with which they hold these things. I do have a striped tie in my school colors btw. Since my school colors are red white and black I have a had time wearing it lol. Maybe in the summer.

Love the outfit (especially the waistband) but what pick my curiosity most is the wine rack!

My school tie is burgundy, navy and yellow, so a bit easier to wear!

Very nice! Even nicer with darker colored trousers, I think.
The solution is "American" stripes, i.e. stripes running in the other direction (as we do with our ties).

I'm a little confused by this. I thought organizational tie ran downward from left to right, but the RAF tie appears to run from right to left.

While it’s true that in the US the stripes almost always run from upper right to lower left, in the UK they seem to run in either direction, though you’re absolutely right that most often they run from upper left to lower right, but there are frequent exceptions to that.

Here’s Golding's RAF page (they hold a royal warrant, so I’m assuming they’ve got it right):

Thanks @Academic2 . If American military ties were as tasteful as their British counterparts I might even consider wearing one from my regiment. However they are not.

It's very hard to make a double breasted jacket look good in a picture sitting down (but in all other things, I prefer the chair to the door frame)

I wear darker trousers with darker ties; this particular tie seemed better with light grey. I actually think it would look even better with winter white flannel, but hardly anyone sells them, and those that do have too light a weight (<10oz). I might get some from Gennaro or Sal when they come to San Francisco.

Here's me, today. Relaxed, but no good being too relaxed.

Really like this, sharp look! What glasses do you have? I have been thinking about the transparent look for a while but haven't been able to find a well executed pair, yours look perfect though!

Yeah, I agree, made a bad call when it came to cropping the pictures. Regarding the f-stop, I rather awful when it comes to photography.

I posted a picture with everything the same but the tie a while ago, if you're curious.

Thank you all! The overcoat is Ballantyne (made by Caruso).

Over the weekend, I received official notice that I had gotten tenure. My department is throwing a little party for me, and I figured I'd convey exactly I how feel with my newfound job security.

What I wore to teach earlier today:

It's my tenure and I'll dress how I want to:
