Help finding sweaters for man with belly

I struggle to find sweaters that fit. As a man with a bit of a belly, I have always found that sweaters that fit in the chest/shoulder/arms are too tight around the waist leading to an unflattering belly bulge. I find the fit is most problematic with thinner sweaters like cashmere or merino but the problem still exists with thicker sweaters.

Shirts don't have this problem. Non slim-fit shirts tend to be sufficiently generous around the waist while leaving the chest/shoulder/arms quite trim.

Should I be looking for a certain type of sweater given my build?

If you're close to 6' tall, you probably can find a decent fit in a Big & Tall sweater. Also, a retailer like Eddie Bauer is unofficially geared toward hefty men.
