I'm getting married in a few months, and have started to looking into suiting for my groomsmen. The issue I have is they range in size from a 36R to a 52R. Do you have any recommendations on brands that provide good quality and range across that spectrum? Or am I looking at needing to go MTM to get everyone in the same suit?

Congrats on your upcoming wedding and best wishes.

A bit more information would be helpful here. For example, what is your budget per suit? It sounds like you are looking to buy or have everyone buy a suit.

I'd also note that there is no reason why everyone needs to be in the same suit. As long as everyone looks nice and there are not clashing outfits (which there should not be), you should be fine. Most elegant wedding parties historically did not all wear the same exact outfit. You may be thinking of having everyone in the same suit with different accessories, but it's hard to tell from your short post. The idea that wedding parties have to match is really an invention of the rental tux industry, which makes a lot more money when everyone has to rent a tux vs. letting people who own tuxes wear the one they have already. That said, I don't know your exact circumstances. Perhaps the bride wants everything to match and that's not worth the fight from your perspective as long as everyone looks nice. I really have no idea. I just think we'd be wrong to not at least let you know that perfectly matching wedding parties are not the most elegant way to go.

Whatever you end up doing, best wishes and congrats again. If you could give us some more details on what you're looking to spend and what type of suit if any you have in mind, that will help you get better recommendations.

Congrats sir - I too am getting married in two months. My honest advice that others here have and will echo - forget about "matching" everyone. Her highness may fully understand this as it runs counter to current conventional thinking of our peers and since the bridesmaids will probably be wearing matching outfits, but the groomsmen are not there to MATCH the girls but rather to complement them, nor do they have to be the same. I personally gave my guys very general guidance - color of suit and shirt and am letting them choose exactly what to do. I am sure some guys will have pleats, some will have cuffs, one may have a classic cut another a bid modern - but who cares? We are not wearing a single color that matches the ladies, but since I have a classic/basic color scheme I can be assured that we will not clash.

Asking the groomsmen to spring for MTM is poor form depending on their budget/lifestyle; conversely buying each of them MTM is a huge and very generous gesture but a definitely unnecessary (all in my opinion). A few of my guys almost never wear suits on a regular basis so I chose a basic color scheme that at least would serve as staple in their wardrobe going forward in the event they had to purchase a suit for the wedding.

Just because they have different sizes is no reason to go MTM. OTR should be fine, but you'll have to take each man on a case by case basis. Do you even have to buy them suits in the first place? Can't you just tell them to wear navy blue suits?

How Do You Feel About Pleated Trousers?

  • Love them, classic!

  • Occasionally, depending on the outfit

  • Prefer flat-front

  • Never wear them
