Natural chromexcel does darken over time but if you use minimal conditioner or creams, it won’t become much darken than the loafer here.
This pair is darker than your average dune because I have applied neutral Venetian and wax multiple times before taking photos. When applying the cream, it’s instantly noticeable that the color was affected.
We rename most of our leather colors to avoid confusion. For example, other brands might sell a “brown CXL” boot and we could name ours brown CXL as well but they could be two different colors because horween offers more than one brown.
Its also common for tanneries to develop a color (say snuff) and release newer versions down the road. If you use the tanneries name, it can be confusing if other brands use the same name but offer slightly different hues.
