Good tailor in Vancouver?

That's gonna be a rush job - I had a cashmere sweater that had like a 1" tear along a shoulder seam and it took 10 business days. (was during the summer, before Canada Day, and they did a great job though)

Oakridge is very good and would be a good option for you, but they're not the fastest.

I've gone to Oakridge several times, with mixed results. They seem to have problems with getting the shoulder/collar done right, and I have some suits with an unsightly kink about halfway down the shoulder.

My next tailoring visit will be to Townline again, and if they do as well as they have in the past, I'll stick with them.

Dropped in at lunch and meet a Asian women (I assume Joy, from reading this thread). Tried on the suit and asked for any recommended changes (I dont have the style knowledge yet to ask for specific changes); none were suggested, suit fits well, arm length is good, waist in good etc...

Guess I will leave it for now...

Might try Oakridge Tailors, or stick with "Maximilian for Men" in Richmond (Lansdowne Mall). I have had good experience with him, but was a little leery with his work due to the comments I received on my suit here. He seemed very knowledgeable and helpful, must have spent almost 1.5 hours with me regarding sizing for a vest and reviewing my suit. Maximilian used to be in Oakridge mall at one point, maybe someone here has used him?

So probably a bad idea to get my tuxedo altered a week before the party?

I wouldn't want to permanently ruin it just for it. At the same time would suck to wear a suit at a black tie. Any other solutions? Should I hold out? Or start shopping for a tuxedo Tshirt?

I have had good luck with his shirts, bad luck with his suits. He orders the suits from offshore, so he basically just takes measurement and send them off. Shirts are day to day wear kind of thing though.

I don`t use him anymore myself though.

Agreed. I grew up in Burnaby, and it's nice to be back once in awhile. If I want any "big city" shopping done I can just go down to Washington state, or have a mail proxy service.

One thing I like about Vancouver is the great transit system. Not perfect, but it gets you to almost everywhere you need to go.

Go to Oakridge Tailors, they do a great job on Jean Hems - they are on Cambie, just North of Oakridge mall

Hello just joined the forum!! a lot of good information on this thread!

I have some blazers and coats purchased several years ago but have not worn them for a while as their fit is so outdated (i.e. too boxy/loose). how much should I expect to pay for total makeover? (i.e. sleeves, waist, and shoulder slimmed down; length shortend etc). If I don;t do the makeover, I would probably end up throwing them away. Which tailor would you recommend in Van West area? Thanks

I'm looking for similar - I have a new jacket I would like to purchase which needs reducing at the shoulders/arm length/overall length shortened.

Holt Renfrew quoted me $220 for it all (which is where there jacket is on sale).

I'm wondering if there is anywhere else it could be done cheaper - or to look for a cheaper option is a dangerous thing.

If I purchase it from Holt Renfrew and they also do the alteration, maybe if they screw it up I can say I don't want it?

I have a diesel peacoat that i recently received as an xmas gift, everything fits nicely, except for the sleeves which are too lose and wide, does anyone know any places where they can be altered to be slimmer? I've dug through some posts and it looks like this Joy place by oakridge does a lot of alterations, so I'm probably gonna check it out this weekend, but does anyone know of any other places they'd like to recommend, and maybe how much it might cost?

Would oakridge do a good job on hemming a pair of jeans? I want to get a pair of Imperial Dukes and they need hemming since they have a long inseam. I don't want self edge to due it since I don't know how long I want the inseam.
