Just finishing reading the entire thread, already ready for my first French-style suit.

Any price info on David Diagne MTM? Thinking about Jean Rotin also but travelling to Marseille seems too much trouble for me.:confused2:

I did some price inquiry

Marco di Fiore: 2300+ euros for a single jacket (might be around 2500-2700) and 3000 for a 2-piece suit

Maison Sirven: 3500+ euros for a single jacket and 5000 for a 2-piece suit

Another store I liked a lot during my last Paris trip was kimono on Boulevard Hausmann. Ties were good and reasonably priced. They had a great selection of accessories.

The pictures on Maison Sirven’s Instagram look great. It’s too bad that a lot of the smaller French tailors don’t really travel to see customers like their British and to a lesser extent Italian counterparts. I’d love to try a French bespoke tailor but traveling back and forth to Paris isn’t really feasible for me.

as a local I can confirm that Kimono is a great store for acessories, ties, bows, pocket squares, etc
And it's really close to big dept stores on boulevard Haussman were tourists do their shopping

Yet another corrupt African leader who enjoys French tailoring - this time it's Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo.

Point of interest: the effect a suit's cut has on physique. Obama looks limp and weak, Mbasogo looks buff and healthy.

So true. Obama is tall. lean and healthy but that suit does him no favors compared to his counterpart.

Looks terrible. He needs to lurk more.

The Left Bank aesthetic is alive and well at Cifonelli - sharing some details from this corduroy jacket with four patch, flapped pockets and interesting cuff detail.

Folks - I just grabbed a Cifonelli Montecarlo sport coat from Barneys Warehouse. Price was too good not to take a flyer.

I typically wear Canali Kei coats - I find the shorter length and casual feel works for me. Any thoughts on the Montecarlo in context of the Canali? Any risk that I’m buying a diffusion brand inadvertently? Appreciate your thoughts!

I bought Montecarlo from Barney’s but had to return because shoulder was too tight (in 36, divot on the shoulder though 38 will be too big). I like the fabric, I find Montecarlo “too generic” though, it doesn’t even have his house shoulder, construction is probably good given how anal Ciff seems to be about just everything but I felt it could just be another random Caruso/Canali Kei/Boglioli etc Italian jacket

Thanks for the notes - and also, crap. I bought a 40 (usual size) but wear 42 in Kei only... sounds like this gamble won't be paying off.

For $500 in a colorway I needed (dark brown), if it's a generic Italian that's amusingly probably exactly what I wanted. Fingers crossed on sizing I suppose.

Thanks!

Prior to Sartoria Partenopea going bust, the new Cifonelli RTW was sublime. The Marbeuf (the one with the actual Cifo shoulder) did not sell that well at Barneys, hence them switching to the more universally accepted Montecarlo. Nowadays it's not bad, but it's not great. For the price you paid, sounds reasonable.
