Is my Emporio Armani gift fake (I know you are probably sick of these!).
    Hi,

Received this Jumper from my sister as a present and I am not sure if it is real. I dont think she would buy me a fake, as I would prefer genuine high st garment.

    The certificate feels embossedl[IMG]

I just bought a Kiton Jeans, how can I know thats authentic?

AI've bought five pair of Kiton jeans on Ebay and i have no question they are real. I personally think that if you're going to counterfeit jeans, it wouldn't be Kiton, it would be Gucci or some trendy brand.

AI bought five pairs of Kiton jeans at a night market in China for $50 bucks. The seller guaranteed they're authentic..JK.

However Kiton is in danger of becoming a trendy brand, especially in China. It's already happened with Brioni. Counterfeit Kiton certainly does exist. There's quite a few fake Kiton jeans listed on Taobao.

Hello, here are the pictures of my first Kiton clothe:
Who can tell if it's fake or not? I bought on Ebay for $300.00. The seller has more than 7000 points and 99,4% positive feedback. Thank you

Athere are a few things about the jeans that an inattentive or low-budget counterfeiter might not do - -

first, they should almost always (always?) be button-fly, and the buttons are these substantial things on a ball pivot that look like they would be expensive to make/counterfeit.

second, the rivets all have the Kiton logo on it

third, the jeans should all be selvedge

btw, they also have these very light "jeans" that are cut like jeans but aren't made of denim - they are made of cotton that looks like polyester and are always in horrible bright tacky colors. believe it or not, those are authentic as well. but still terrible.

Yes, that's why i'm suspecious about it. It's VERY soft and light, like no other jeans I seen in my life. But for a Kiton is normal right? Thank you

Many denim products have that kind of button now, especially jackets.

That's very easily done. How many million Kiton logo rivets do you want made?

There's hundreds/thousands of denim apparel factories in China that'll do you selvedge if you want. All listed on Global Sources, Alibaba and Made-in-China.

I've noticed that many counterfeits can actually be rather high quality. It's not just the rubbish misspelled dreck any more. There's a reason for that, because many of the sweat shops making apparel for Kiton, Gucci, Armani, Evisu, Levi, etc. are also making the fakes.

It could be very difficult, maybe impossible to tell a real from fake. Although I've never handled a real pair of Kiton jeans. I don't know what the denim feels like. The hardware and construction certainly looks OK from the pictures, it's not shoddy.

As I posted previously, many fakes are coming from the same factories/sweat shops that make the real ones. Unauthorised second-shift production, or seconds or rejects that the factories sell out the backdoor. Probably the only way to be sure you're getting the real-mccoy, is if you buy them from an authorised Kiton store or concession.

Is it "fake" if it is made in the same factory with the same material?

Not necessarily, unauthorised second-shift production may use inferior, cheaper materials. The quality of the denim could be an indicator. However there's any number of factories that will make you good quality Kiton(or whatever brand you want) rivets and tack-buttons.

There's a very fascinating and informative book called The Economics of Counterfeit Trade: Governments, Consumers, Pirates and Intellectual Property Rights, it's on Google Books and Amazon. Plus I know a few people who work in the contract apparel industry, they're ex-students of mine.

This has been going on for years. I've known people who pay $2k and up for a hermes birkin. Compared to the real thing, couldn't see any differences fwiw, but the buyer clearly knows the item is fake

Thanks for your input. It does look good to me as well, I've compared it to several other suits and all the fine details seem to be there. Now the only problem is the pants are kinda small, I'm hoping my tailor can get another 2"+ out from the reserve. I really need to lose some weight.

Well, I have a less scientific but nonetheless reliable method. It only takes a few easy steps:

    1. Put said suit on.
    2. Head out to the nearest nightclub.
    3. Have a drink or two.
    4. When the club is rocking, hit the head.
    5. After hitting the head, move to the sink.
    6. Look in the mirror.
    7. Look to your left.
    8. Now right.
    9. If you have the strong sense of being able to kick the ass of anyone who happens to be standing next to you, you are indeed wearing Brioni.

    Rob
