I just bought these today from a vintage fashion expo here in San Francisco and when I went looking for information on the maker/era I didn't come up with much. So I was hoping maybe someone here knew more about them -- and I also wanted other internet searchers to at least be able to find this thread should they come across a pair of Edwin Clapp shoes in the future.

From what the seller told me they are from the 1940's, but that's all I know. Seem to be in great shape; nothing fancy, just sturdy and simple. Soles are even in decent condition.

Here are some shots of the Edwin Clapp Imperial Wing

I'd post some but with imageshack it will not happen.

Those spectators in my avatar are Edwin Clapp. In my opinion the best shoe manafacturer there was in America. Others like Crosby Square probably vied with them.

Those are some slick-looking wingtips, man. Congrats on the find.

I'm gonna have to go get the Clapp myself.

Good to know! Wore them to work today; the 15 minute walk to the train wasn't the most comfortable outing-- hoping they soften up a bit. This is a tank of a shoe! Probably why after 60 - 70 years they look like this

Apparently you can transfer your imageshack pic library over to photobucket or is there a better option?
