Speaking of 888... I find they work best on wingtips:

Hi everyone, I've contacted EG for some clarification and just received an e-mail. I decided to give them a call to discuss the matter. The main outcome is this:

- The pice list is several years old and far from accurate at this moment
- EG definately has no intention of doing collective deals
- There is something strange about the entire story; several factors dont stack up.
(Eg. (no pun intended) supposedly the list was given by a Jermyn Street employee with a French accent. There are no Jermyn Street employees with French or similar accents)

These (old) prices give a distorted view of value as retailers still have several expenses (VAT, rent, staff salaries, etc.) which a consumer will easily (want to) overlook seing the ex factory prices.

To be honest, this outcome doesn't surprise me at all.

No way! Shocking!!!!

Retailers mark up goods???!?!?!?! Retailers have expenses!?!?!?!! Manufacturers don't undercut their distribution channels!?!?!?!??!?!?! WHAAAAAT?????????????

Oh, I'm gonna be depressed for a few days now.

That said, I'm in for 8 pairs if it somehow works out - we can always hope that there's some tricky loophole left in there somewhere.

I just ordered a pair of Dovers from Brooks. 30% savings :) I think it looks plenty good enough on the 888. I do agree that split toes make the rounder toe lasts look sharper.

Had to do a special order to get D width shoes

Just got an email from a Nigerian prince, who said he has 1,000 pairs of EG Dovers - all new and in dark oak antique - trapped in the country and needs to get them out. If you provide your bank account information, he can send them to you for $75 a pair. Interested parties should contact NAMOR.

This must be true because only a Nigerian prince would have enough money and bad taste to buy 1000 pairs of a ugly shoe :)
