I think indigo wash denim looks amazing with tweed jackets and boots. If the jackets have elbow pads and suede details, then even better.

Some of the images have people trying way too many patterns together (pindot and guncheck?Really?), but I think there are many ways to make a jacket and jeans a smart casual choice.

Even Esquire cannot be wrong all the time ;)

That look isn't exactly new - it emanates from the East London underground culture of the 1980s. There's even a book about it :

I wasn't suggesting Esquire had invented it, merely that their endorsement of the look tends to 'mainstream' it to the extent that people would think you were trying to copy the latest trend. In terms of its history, I think that the attribution of the buttoned-up shirt with no tie look to the 80s is a bit late to the party - surely it's originally a British 60s mod thing:

Re: the air tie. It seems to originally have been a working man's getup. It can be seen in pictures of working class men, dating back to the early 1900's (maybe even earlier?).

Are air guitarists generally found found wearing air ties?

The last time I wore jeans and a tie was my first (or maybe second) WAYWRN post. In another life, I'd feel comfortable wearing dress denim (not jeans) and a knit tie. In this life, there are many trousers I would need to own before getting some in denim.

Though I am wearing jeans today!

Those look like bell bottoms. How wide is the hem opening?

When it comes to jeans, I don't mind being in the 99%. Or 90%. Or even 75%. Though next time I buy jeans, I'll probably get them straight.
