Does anyone know what causes this gaping around the ankle? View attachment 1396280 View attachment 1396281

It is worse when I put weight through my heel.

Either you have a low instep or the shoe has too high an instep. Your arch doesn’t push up against the laces enough, so the material has to go somewhere.

Consider a thin insole or a tongue pad to get rid of it. If those are Rain, try Simpson in the same size - will likely be a good fit.

I have both Rain and Sineu lasted shoe. I find the Rain and Sineu fit very similar. The sineu might be a smidge tighter around ball and heel.
Sineu sounds like a good last for a jumper boot for those of us who like Rain but wanting a rounder last for casual boot.

Definitely. I have it in a chukka boot and a NST derby. Great last. Casual without being blobby. More smart casual. Very similar to the c&j 360 last.

A pic of the NST derby would be great. I remember the chukka boot you posted; is it unlined? If so, is it on a flex welt sole?

The chukkas were lined and on the chukka with three eyelets. Pics below of the NST. I have a navy suede pair incoming ?

These look like Saint Crispins or some other makers test shoes. Instep is too high and that would need to be adjusted.
Thank you for the feedback everyone that helps. And I posted this here because I trust the people on this thread, but I will confess these are trial shoes for Saint Crispin.
