I agree with you.. the shoe in question looks great btw. The only Carmina issue here is offering too many choices. I stopped dealing with Vass since they started with the museum stuff, and now shell museum?

i love the 3 Carmina shoes I have ordered, 2 in suede and 1 Cordovan “amaretto“, but I stayed simple with the stuff the have in stock, quicker and safer it looks like.
They do look very nice. ?

These are from the latest custom weekend - museum shell that was supposed to be Bordeaux, but ended up being Whiskey-ish. At first I thought sending them back, but as the boots look perfect in received colour, I decided to keep them rather than waiting for replacement in 2035. For the future orders (have one pair in works for my wife), I think I will go back to other makers. View attachment 1562914

Colors vary widely but looking close at the pic do I see imperfection spots and is that a straight line in the shading? I have always been told there are no straight lines in nature so if that is the case I find straight lines odd for museum leather. I have have had several museum leathers over the years all had natural looking variation. Otherwise great boots I always wanted a pair of the Frankenstitch.

The speckles are normal for shaved shell. The more defined line are also normal for this type of shell. You can look at images from other makers and you will see the same attributes. These aren't defects. I'd add that in my order for marbled shell, I put a lot of detail about how I preferred the clicking to be handled in the factory since I knew that there was this type of potential.

Carmina was very upfront about what was and was not possible. Like I said, there needs to be some minimum level of reasonableness and knowledge about the product when ordering marbled shell.

I expect things like the caps to be exactly in line when I’m buying at EG level, but for Carmina/Cheaney/Trickers eg al, I’ll accept a couple of imperfections. Just not the level of imperfections coming from Carmina at the moment.

I don't usually get into debates, especially on this thread, but give me a break. He ordered museum shell cordovan, I'd expect more color swerve than normal cordovan given the finish. I clearly see light and dark burgundy in these and nothing like whiskey

I feel the same about people complaining about free stuff ?

Man guys, maybe we should just merge this thread with the Alden one at this point.

Maybe Carmina should do another MTO weekend to make everyone forget the past, do an impulse purchase, and get excited for 3 months to 3 decades while they wait for their shoes...

just to find out they are defective.

I shudder to think what I’ll receive. I just don’t understand why they’re allowing these quality issues. Looking at the shoes I have from Carmina that are defect free, they’re hands down the best shoes I’ve ever had. Easily on par with c&j bench grade and possibly the handgrade models. But the last 12 months have been horrendous.

I don't check on this thread very often, but when I do its just people going mad about botched MTO's hahaha

And then I realise I've two pending

1) a lot of issues appear to stem from a huge increase in the number of shoes they make

2) by all accounts it’s still a small number of people complaining

Sure some faults are really bad but it does appear for the most part all of it gets fixed to satisfaction.

“By all accounts”?According to who? Sources? For all we know, the QC issues may be even bigger than what’s reported on here. God only knows how big Carminagate is? And no, the faults don’t get fixed. They get replaced by even bigger faults. ?
