Cool boots, but too worker like. Going to return-- plus mine had some construction blemishes.

Any Alden Alternatives that will handle Southeastern winters?

How Southeast? If you don't get snow, then pretty much anything. Look for the double waterlock sole, the Indy, the commando sole or even (I don't like it, though) the crepe sole. Alden's most hardcore boot is by far the 404 Indy: heavily oiled Kudu Horween leather with a commando sole.

Really, though, you'd be better off with something from Red Wing (GT is dressier, as is the new 9029 Indy-knockoff that's coming out soon), another Chippewa model, or even ll bean duck boots. I have the RW 899, and it is a tank of a boot.

If you deal with ice a lot, Yaktrax or equivalent are seriously the way to go. But in the Southeast I'm doubting that is an issue.

Hey hey

I tried a pair of red wing iron rangers but would rather get the katahdins.

I was a 9.5 in the Red Wings
Are the Katahdins the same? or should I go 9?

cheers

I'd go with the same size.

Jeez. The Katahdin are already sold out in common sizes and LL Bean just told me they won't have any more until Spring 2012.

Just w/ my hands/fingers, to the point where the toe box is pliable/somewhat soft.

Looks a lot better IMO. Wish I could take a pic, but not wearing them today.
