This one’s probably my fault. I canceled something on the buyers request and refunded money (personally) through PayPal. I just learned that eBay never refunded international shipping cost, probably because I made some mistake when canceling/relisting.

Buyer doesn’t speak great English and opened a not received case against me. I messaged him through eBay and he says he just wants the shipping money from eBay.

The item was $40. I’m worried this could cost me $40-$80 if eBay cancels and refunds (because I already paypalled him $40), then I’m still left with a PayPal case. :(

If you print a label marked the fifth, drop it in the blue postal mailbox, and they don’t scan it until the sixth, is that a problem?

This will be my first big outing printing my own labels.

This will be my first big outing printing my own labels.

No problem. I think the labels are good for at least a week.

So this in from the 'Bay today, something I've never seen before, and I'm sure just yet another attempt to coax sellers to have what in my opinion is a ludicrous return policy:

I know we go around and around on this every few months, and we all know the following:

1. We all take returns, even when we have a no return policy.
2. There is an increased risk of bogus SNADs with a no return policy.
3. There is a dramatically increased risk of capricious returns with a 30-day return policy.

I maintain a no returns policy (while still graciously accepting any and all returns) to encourage buyers to ask questions/explore issues first, rather than after they have the item in their hands.

When I started on the 'Bay in 1998, I was coming out of the live auction world, and back then there was no BIN/BO and if you bought it, you owned it. Just like in a "real" auction.

Years later, I reluctantly agreed to a 14-day return policy, and yes, my returns went up, but by an amount I could tolerate. For a while. Then, they did away with that option and forced 30-day or nothing. So I went back to "no returns". IMHO, 30 days is completely bonkers, and increases the risk of heavily used items coming back. Heck, if I order something and it's bad enough that I HAVE to return it (I usually just resell), I do it the same day I receive it, or the day after at the latest. There is no reason others can't do the same, unless they're morons (I know, I know).

And yet, I read stories on here all the time about eBay NOT supporting adequately the sellers who pay them their fees, especially when it comes to bogus returns. It always seems to be "tough noogies". So what is all this happy talk about "we'll protect you if you have a 30-day policy, but won't if you don't". WTF is that? From everything I've read on this thread, they mostly WON'T. Where and what is the supposed upside?
