Brooks Brothers ties

Hello, What do you guys think about Brooks Brothers ties? I just bought a bunch (under their 20% off sale for $250+ purchased, plus another 30% off for each second tie, for a cost of around $40 per tie), but notice that they are 4" wide. I like the ties, both for their design and because they feel substantial, but I'm a slender fellow and wonder if they're too wide for me. I don't want to go out into the world looking foolish (again). Edit: FYI, tonight's the last night of the sale, so this deal--15% off $150, 20% off $250, plus 30% for every second tie--can still be had. Of course that's probably nothing for all you eBay pros around here.

If you like the ties but are concerned that they are too wide, you might want to check out what's available on ebay. There's a seller in NC (armyhardhat if memory serves) who usually stocks up at Brooks outlets and typically has a ton of them, usually more narrow than 4", and at what generally turn out to go for really attractive prices.

I personally quite like Brooks ties. They aren't at the luxurious top of the heap, but are great workhorse ties, and some of mine are among my favorite ties. I have one around my neck at this very moment, in fact. Of course, it's only 3.5" wide.

Four inches is pushing it, and if the width makes you uncomfortable then take them back. Don't spend that much money on something you'll always be annoyed about. Surely there are some there in a more appropriate 3.5"-3.75" width, tending toward the latter these days. I remember seeing what was otherwise a very nice Brooks Country Club tie that was clownish it was so wide.

FWIW, you can often find BB's ties at thrift stores, which is where most of mine came from. Ebay is also a good suggestion.

If you get a good enough deal on one of the wide BB ties they are now offering, you can send it to Tiecrafters in NYC and they will resew it at the width you desire. Might be a 4 tie minumum for this service, but its an idea.

I've got a couple of Brooks Brothers ties I copped at thrift stores and they regularly draw compliments. For what it's worth, I am a really, really, really not-Brooks Brothers looking guy, so the items in question are probably viewed in a different context when I put them to use.

I regularly get good deals on the Brooks Brothers Makers line of ties at their outlets, which the also stock the "346" line which is made for the outlets.  I hit some of the outlets on regular road trips and have bought their $59 and up ties for $19 on occasion.
