Sup gang, been a minute...looking for a new pair of denim for upcoming fall/winter.

Have historically preferred low straight cuts (eg, RRL, APC, Somet) but have been wearing 7 denim with some stretch and taper of late, just cuz they're comfy. Interested in working on a pair of selvedge for a season or two.

Looking for grey/black selvedge, not seeing anything jump out at vendors I've frequented in the past (eg, Blue In Green SoHo, RRL). Not typically able to get into slimmer cuts due to legs/butt. Any ideas on what to take a look at?

Imogene and Willie have some good looking black denim relaxed fit:

I like the look of their Charcoal too, but it's in slim.

Try Iron Heart. They offer a variety of styles, from classic straight to super slim and in different types of black- overdyed, fading to gray, and non-fading. You can even get them in different weights- average (14oz) or heavy (21oz).

They're not cheap, but they are exceedingly well made and customer service is excellent.

If you're open to a higher rise (11.5" on my size 31), the Freenote Belford in Black is one of my favorite denim purchases ever. Nice straight fit that works well with thicker legs.
Thanks, will take a look

Kind of where I'm landing...eyeing some of the fade to grey stuff, thinking with some taper vs straight. 21 oz sounds heavy though, you have any experience with their heft and how they fade?

If you're looking for a bit of taper, the 666 might be their most popular model, and it fits a wide variety of body types. The 888 has a higher rise and a lot of guys find it more versatile. I don't have personal experience with either, however. I'm strictly an indigo denim guy, so I can't say how the black to gray fades, either. If you click on the "See discussion on the forum" link, there are usually some pics that give you a decent idea of what to expect. The fade to gray denim has been around for years, so plenty of guys have put in the time with it. As for the 21oz denim, yeah, it's heavy. That said, it's a loose weave, so it breathes better than you'd expect. I live in Texas and I've worn a pair of the 634S through more than one summer. If you're the type of person who starts sweating when it hits 75, though, it's not going to be great. Not to sound like a shill, but the IH forum is a great place to do some research on wearability, as well.

I'm kind of a sucker for odd denim, so most of my jeans now are things like broken twill, colored weft, super slubby, shashiko; that sort of thing, but there was a time when all I wore was 21oz Iron Heart, so I have a deep fondness for it still.
