But you won't catch me wearing my Incotexes or Valentinis (or even my better denim) on my bikes--no way. It's simply not practical in any way, not to mention the fact that for many years I've trained myself to ride fast, so I'm certain I'd sweat through my Barbas and Lorenzinis in no time flat. This is a "trend"--and that's what it is--that I just don't get.

i used to commute to school and work, and on longer rides i rode my road bike and wore cycling clothes, usually lycra but w/o the garish styling. when i lived within a couple of miles or so of school, i used a city bike with upright bars and a chain guard. then, i wore street clothes, basically the same thing i would have worn if i had just walked. i never had a problem with my pants getting caught in the chain. and the short distance ensured i arrived fresh and dry.

so it all depends. it can work, but you have to match your bike and clothes to your route.

I'm a roadie, so when I use to bicycle to work (50 miles round trip) it was always bib shorts and a jersey ... comfort all the way.
