Belt Maintenance

I was just sending a bunch of belts in to get shortened, and noticed that they were looking a tad scruffy. Nothing awful, but also nothing that I'd be pleased to see on the retail rack. I tend not to think about belts much except to choose the color in the morning. And I've never considered conditioning or polishing them because they might spend their day rubbing against some high-priced trousers.

What do you all do to maintain belts? And for what reason would you ever give it the heave-ho, apart from its having become too small?

I use Lexol conditioner. Rarely anything else.

sometimes after i finished shoe maintenance i slip them through the applying socks. that's all for now.

So if good enough for my shoes, then good enough for my belts.........I use Saphir Renovateur.

on alligator belts I use the Saphir Reptile lotion.

Oh my. I used Saphir Renovateur on my alligator watch strap. I noticed that the cloth had a lot of the strap's dye on it. Did I do some damage to my strap? I didn't know if this Reptile lotion before I read this post.

I use Allen Edmonds Leather Lotion on my belts. It keeps them from cracking and it has no color so it won't rub off on your pants.

Reno is more of a conditioner, not a cleaner, hence less solvents.....i wouldn't worry too much

Saphir has this nice Reptile Band cleaning kit, available only in Japan...

Second that, I use Sedgwick's leather care, best I've found so far. Don't know about it's use on exotics? but shouldn't hurt.
