Since I bought my AE 5th Aves, I don' care too much for my old black shoes. I might wear the blacks with dark grey flannels or black trousers but that is about it, which means very few wears these days.

There are many brown hues but only one black. Black shoes are more formal and elegant in my opinion, but since they're easy to pair with about anything they can be a sort of "safe" pick in an outfit. Maybe conservative is a better word.

Agreed. Don't like black and blue, each to their own but it's not a combo I'd ever wear, and, nor is a black or charcoal suit with brown, or worse tan, shoes.

Have to respectfully disagree with MoK, as an Englishman myself can't be getting on board with black being always correct - surely not black shoes with a brown suit?

Don't understand this need to pick one or the other though, they each have their place, some designs even lend themselves particularly well to one colour over the other.

A world where everyone wears only brown shoes would be most boring indeed, and for more formal occasions black is essential.

Not to mention Oxblood, or all the wonderful colours some of those French shoes come in.

I'm sure he's had that pic in the bag for a while.

right! Hes got about 15 pairs of shoes that all look aching similar and have very little character or interesting design traits.

I don't particularly dislike black shoes, though I don't find them as interesting as my brown shoes. I only have one pair of black, one oxblood, and the rest are various shades of brown.

As an aside though, what do people think of a midnight blue shoe in place of black? Obviously not with a black funeral suit, but with various shades of navy and grey?
