Hi,
I'm looking to get a dark blue donegal sportjacket and I'd like to hear people's thoughts on the options I've found and some assumptions I've made.
Fabric:
I'm thinking a subtle tweed type pattern would make sense such as the ones made by Moon. Moon sounds like the right mill because they seem more affordable while still being reputable. Does that sound right, and are there any other options to look at? Also, I've seen Moon donegal fabrics advertised as merino and others advertised as a rough tweed. Anyone have further info on that, and any recommendations aesthetic wise?
Style/Fit:
Looking for a jacket with a soft shoulder but a classic cut.
Where to buy:
I'm near NYC. LS Men's Clothes told me on the phone they could do the jacket MTM through Rochester Tailored Clothing in Southwick's old block. Price would be under $1000 but by how much I'm not sure (seems like I have to go in person). I also visited Calamita Tailoring and the owner/tailor told me could do a bespoke sport jacket for $1500 for the fabrics he has (leaning against this option just due to the price). The pricing would be complicated as it looks he doesn't have donegal fabrics so I'd have to purchase them myself. Beyond that, I've heard of Franco Ercole in Brooklyn of which I don't know much about, and Spier & Mackay which doesn't stock Moon donegal in dark blue and I'm not sure works for me sizing wise (I had to return a 36 contemporary suit from them due to it being too large, and I'm not sure if their 34 or 36 slim is too small or too large). Secondhand can be an option too but I haven't encountered any donegal sportjackets in 34R (what appears to be my size) on eBay (nor off the rack new). Any advice on the options, and any I don't know about?
Thank you for any help!
