I have a nice two-piece suit (dark grey) that I want to a vest to for my brothers wedding. I wanted to know if I should get a vest with, or without lapels? Also if the vest color isn't the exact shade is it a problem?
Thanks for all advice

Of course being a different colour is a serious problem. Buy a three piece suit if that is what you want, don't try to change a two piece to something it is not. lapels are a matter for your choice not anyone else - you are going to be seen in it, no one else.

Something in a contrasting colour? Day wedding or evening wedding? Check out Gentlemen's Gazette on odd-vests, it is a good start. If you are going for a very formal look, it is tough (white tie, black tie, morning suit); but more casual (tattersal or moleskin, glen plaid, irish linen) can work. Suggestion to go pale gray with navy or gray suits.

Vest that is an almost but not quite match is just as bad of a look as pants that almost but don't quite match the jacket. Don't try to match the colour; as MDeKelver said, contrasting is good. Light grey, tan, red, light blue, yellow. Solids are good, patterns depend on the tie; shiny satin or brocades not recommended.

Thanks for suggestions, so what color odd vest would you suggest to go with a dark grey suit for an evening wedding?
