"Popover" is fine, if you won't wear them because you don't like the term, then don't. The alternatives (polo [inaccurate], rugby [same], woven long sleeve half placket shirt [ridiculous when a shorter alternative is available]) are no good. The shirts have been around a long time; why should the name change because you saw a mediocre version at J Crew and can't get over it?

Fair 'nuff, though it was my own nutty pendantic'ness not JCrew that's the root. I only raised the point for Greg+NMWAco in case there was broader silly concern, but it looks like I'm in the minority so no harm, no foul.

Solid.

Slightly off-topic, I wore my Formosa to a wedding yesterday. :)

Got a new bow tie on my way. Sure didn't last long on my no-spending spree.

Lol what mean this no-spending spree.

Thanks, razl.

Well, I just got the sunglasses last week. But evidently my Tuxedo bow tie ate it at last year's Mardi Gras ball. Hopefully the Calabrese doesn't disappear!

And by the way, that is perhaps the best wedding guest outfit I have seen in a long time.

Reminds me of this Fellows drawing:

The right term is popover, though they are also referred to as tunic shirts, particularly if they have a band collar. Incidentally, they have been popular with brands like Engineered Garments for years. Oh, and some refer to them as grandpa shirts, which is evocative, if not particularly descriptive.

nothing to get over, I own two. haven't seen any by jcrew but feel fairly sure they will inevitably be just that ( mediocre that is )
and unlikely to come anywhere close to the dieworker example which is how they should be produced. without the BD collar.

I actually can't deal with a popover. Nothing to do with the name - I just hate that you have to pull the thing over your head and then button it. I feel like I should only have to do one thing

It also looks wrong to me...like a polo with a too-long placket, or a button down that doesn't button all the way down. But to each his own of course
