I like the idea. I think the color should be more versatile than "SF Red", I don't want these boots to be something you'd wear only once in a while. Oxblood would be great. Old English II w/o the medallion would be great. The medallion just makes it too busy. Other specs that I'd suggest: - U or F last - Steel toe taps - Redenbach soles, double tapering to single - Welt cut closer to the shoes like my Vass beaulieu - Speed hooks for the top 3 holes

Blue could be interesting but oxblood or a variant of cognac would be my first thought. F last rather than U last (one is great to look at but the other is great too wear). Too many people have problems with the U last. Nothing inherently wrong with the austerity brogue but I'd prefer to see a bit of perforation.

^ I'd also go with the steel or rubber toe taps and an option for a non-leather sole.

Sorry for the ambiguity. I am actually suggesting both, so customized requests can come to me in the normal way. Separately, this thread is about hammering out the details for a "secret handshake" forum special boot.

Keep the ideas flowing guys, thanks.

I posted that pic in Manton's Balmoral Boot Appreciation thread here http://www.styleforum.net/showpost.p...&postcount=363 Gabor Halmos sent it to me...he has an excellent Vass Appreciation pic collection. Its got the so called HAF sole. Double sole up front but tapers off into a single sole in the middle of the shoe. Its an ankle boot and next on my list once my first Vass Old English 2 special comes in and I can lay to rest whether the U last is right for me The boot as posted was calf leather...not burgundy cordovan horse leather

i would like to play, but i don't want a boot. could i order essentially the same thing but in a shoe, and still be in the super-special-awesome secret club, or is that stupid?

Thanks for the pics Michael. I've had inquiries about a Budapester boot as well and those look great.

Ok, consensus seems to be building for the austerity brogue F last in Bordeaux (styleforum red was an exaggeration.) 3 speed laces at the top. I'd love to do cordovan but Vass has been resistant.

Other details that may be interesting: distinctive nail pattern on the heels? Painted soles?

How much variation would you guys allow, and still admit a member to the club? U last instead of F? Blue instead of red (like the EG belts)? Shoe instead of boot? Anything beyond that I think would be too much.
