Whoever said vintage Rolex bracelets were jangly was right. 40mm 16570. I’m pretty sure 40mm is my Goldilocks size for anything with a bezel. View attachment 1630759

Well that is the old style clamshell end piece bracelet. How long have you had it? Maybe led a rough life. I've owned several with that bracelet, but none with that amount of play or stretch between the clamshell and the case or the bracelet links. I have the same watch but with solid end link bracelet, its 20 years old, with none of that. Later bracelets don't have that issue near the case. You can always send it in to a specialist to deal with some of that jangling and stretch.

Just got it - the price reflected the bracelet stretch and service dial (it’s a 93 so would have been a Tritium dial originally) so I’m happy enough with it. It looks like it has been looked after but worn a lot.

There is a specialist here in the U.K. that can deal with a lot of the stretch, but until
then it doesn’t bother me. I do prefer the solid end links though TBH.

Non-black, non-brown/tan strap options for Patek 5170G?

Thinking dark green or dark blue with off-white stitching.

Wow—what a ******* gorgeous, achingly perfect watch.

Light to medium gray. Something other than croc/alligator for a change of pace.

I’ve always liked the 5170G. Really like the 5070G as well though.

I agree, although some people may take issue with the sundials obscuring 2 of the numbers.

Dark green for the strap.

The sub-dials displacing the numerals instead of cutting them off is part of what comprises perfection to me. You have to either lose the numerals completely, disrupt them, or blow-up the size of the watch to move the sub-dials closer to the center.

I saw the credit card charge.

I guess it’s always possible my wife bought herself something for $80K from the Patek AD …

Nice!

Yeah, I still think I prefer the 5070, but the size of the 5170 is awesome.
