I'd like too see sort of sizing filter for B&S. It's nearly impossible to search for a jacket or shoe size with the 4-digit search requirement. If people used a search-friendly keyword system inside their threads as part of the descriptions, it would make it much easier for people to find specific things.

You used to be able to tag B&S threads, but my understanding is that the mods took it away because it was slowing down the site way too much.

Yes, the new system will have quite a lot more functionality for that. Also, you could try using the Google search - there may be a way to refine the search to find only newer posts, etc.

This (#6) is a pretty obscure hack because it uses the Julian calendar, but it seems to work pretty well: http://www.google.com/custom?hl=en&s...%3Ayfjl3lbiozb the daterange operator takes arguments in the Julian calendar (today is 2455587 for example). If you increment that to make a range covering the date you want to find, you can use it without using a conversion chart. E.g.: daterange:2455582-2455587 is approx. from 1/24/11 to 1/26/11, so 2455580-2455582 would be from 1/22 to 1/24, etc.

I'd love to see a site that goes beyond the usual Usenet ancestry and has room for different types of user content (not just messages). For example, a content type could be Clothing Fit, in which the submission form would have room for size, measurements, a fit picture, and a fit description. That way, someone could just search for the piece they have in mind (say, 5ep Low Down Boot), and instantly have a glossary of sizes, measurements, and fit pics of those jeans without having to scour the forum.

Obviously, that kind of extended content type would do wonders for the Buying & Selling portion of the site. Type of clothing, brand, size, price, condition, etc. would all be mandatory and search-able fields in the form.

You'd also be able to more prominently display the content in the Frontpage section by elevating the content-type "article" above a normal post.

That type of site is usually done poorly, in my experience, because the integration of the forum and other content is pretty haphazard because there aren't any pre-built solutions for that kind of thing. The most elegant example I've found is probably looperman.com (even though the site is pretty ugly), which looks like a ground-up build. Each member has one login and it allows him to post several different types of content.

I don't know how much, if any, money you guys take in over the operating cost of the forum, but the site I described could probably be done in a few weeks with Drupal. I just think Styleforum is outgrowing its forum. The real ***** would be in the migration.

I can't understand a thing of what you are saying. Could you break it down a bit so that some of us who are not that up in intellect can get it as well?

Crack down on replies that are deliberately unhelpful. (Which also would cut down on the sometimes overwhelming volume of posts that can deprive topics of views.) Maybe through a sort of points system that eventually leads to punishment. But, no, not heavy-handed and subjective like that. Rather, a small set of volunteers with good track records would constitute the rating system. Also, there probably ought to be benefits given to well-behaved members, via that rating system. Carrot and the stick.

Those answers usually pop up in ubern00b threads, and those are the very posters most likely to believe the replies.
