my experience with MacNeils calf and shell are to go with the same size..I have the Westchester in calf but have to size down (half) as I prefer wearing loafers a little snug, and with or without socks during S/S months..Hope this will help
I'm a huge fan of buying used shoes, but only very lightly used. shoes worn 5-10 times are essentially new and I generally think these can be great deals.
shoes worn much more than that and I think they are starting to be broken in to someone elses foot (which is bad for you) and in general will just be dirtier, etc.
so try to get a feel for that...which is easier on leather soles shoes. looking at heel pics is another good way to judge wear, as heels often wear down very fast.
re: value, it all depends on various factors such as original cost, brand, leather type, how classic the model is, how worn it is, etc. try searching ebay completed listings to get a sense of what your model is selling for, obviously something closest in the above variables to the one youre thinking of is best
Thanks for the reply. The pics above are of the actual boots in question. They've obviously been worn more than 5-10 times. Not sure how much life could be left in them.
Hmm, the list I have shows the Park Ave and Strand as being based on the same last. Wouldn't have expected that, or maybe they changed it?
Looking for a pair of ae's to wear with jeans or slacks and button up with maybe blazer. No broguing or anything like that. Suggestions? Thanks.
I have a chance to get some used Bayfields. I'm not sure what the rules are with buying used shoes. Should I worry about the shoe not being broken in to conform to my foot? I'm not sure about the condition of the boots either. Would a nice cleaning, polish improve them much? How much (if anything) should I consider paying? Thanks!
These are the actual boots:

The Kenilworth is a great looking plaint toe blutcher in burnished brown. Even though it did not work out for me, i still hold that it is a fantastic shoe, especially when you get to see it in person, very versatile.
Any more opinions on these? Was thinking of paying a little over $100 for them. Good idea/bad idea?
Kenilworth or Leeds. Leeds in shell is very desirable.
