I've always considered the 911's to be a mass-produced car, their only limited production models are the GT2's and GT3's, of which the GT2's should hold value well given their desirability/low production numbers.
The GT2/Gt3s drop in price fast too...I know I had one of each that I got from Otis Chandlers museam before he passed away. I do like them anyway.
I'm not sure "mass-produced" applies as they are still somewhat limited in production. In any event, the quality of the car is quite high from both a build quality and performance standpoint I'm not sure any of us should care.
@ Why...
This thread needs Jon.
The difference isn't as much as one would think, in fact the 911 makes considerably more torque
I wouldn't compare those two...
When I think of limited production, I think of MB SLR, Porsche Carrera GT, Ford GT, Aston DBS. The 911 is an annually produced car, with more made in a year than the latter have in total existance.
Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, again posted a new registration record in Germany in the past financial year 2005/06 (July 31). In this period, a total of 17,207 new Porsche vehicles were registered (previous year: 16,926). The company thus increased the number of new registrations on its home market for the sixth time in succession.

The 911 is built with mass production techniques on an assembly line. It's built in greater numbers than the Cayman and Boxster combined, both of which are outsourced to a 3rd party factory in Finland. If the 911 is a limited production car, I've got some handmade jackets from Kiton to sell you.
