This is one of the cases where my head says I shouldn't like it but the rest of me says otherwise. You do contrast very well with slim over full and colour /pattern under neutral/solid. Creating hormony out of discord is a rare skill indeed!

Do you have a source for a bow tie that is a little larger than average in terms of height, but not wide? I like the idea of floppy bow ties, but all the ones I find are either too big all around or too "stiff".

Vintage Holliday & Brown seems to be my only bet, really. What do you say to the Tom Ford models?

Not feeling this. Normally I like your exuberant and unexpected contrasts, and I think I see what you're going for here, but it's not quite syncing up for me. The silhouette is fighting the colours and vice versa. Instead of an unexpected one-two punch, it's trying to throw both fists at the same time.

To be fair, this is less conceptual than usual, since I simply threw it together, so in that sense, I feel I understand you. It's something of a "season crash", I'd say - the colours of spring and winter frolicking together and perhaps playing a touch too roughly with each other. Or something. Cheers either way, Doc

Well, I think that it's common sense to wear orange trousers only if they're made from corduroy or in a pleasing shade. And you did both. I liked it because for the first time that I'm aware of, you utilised texture to add some depth to your expressiveness

Too wide for me. Height was good though. They would probably be fine if they were floppier but they're not, so appear too wide/clownish. For a bigger guy, they'd probably be fine. I like Francis Ford Coppola's bow-tie here. Mind you, when carrying that much bling, you can get away with almost anything I guess. Much more casual today; although despite it being Paddy's day I still had to go into the office in the afternoon.

There's something funky going on with the right side of my sweater in the first pic, this was just a result of hastily trying to fix it before the timer on the camera ran out.

I Do like this look. Typically what I wear into the office on a day to day basis. Although I do like your boots I would have went with something a little more streamline with this outfit... to match the sleekness of the outfit. I'm with that watch.

I agree with B on this one. Although I am a fan of loose fitting comfortable jeans, this is not the look for them. Also, I think the sweater looks fine... Jacket looks a little too gig in the mid though. Just my .02

Honestly, Spoo....I despise the cardigan. But, I hate the look of cardigans in general, and especially under jackets. Also you have on a jacket and a sweater and then no socks. This seems to be cold up top, warm down below, it just does not jibe. I think if the tie had been closer to a solid and either you wore socks with the loafers, or different shoes...it would have been much better.

+ on the dislike of the cardigan... especially under a jacket. IMO a v-neck sweater would have worked better. Also... while I appreciate the shout out to % I think it was way too dressy up top to go sockless.

I'd skimmed Spoozy's post before; what leaps out at me is that he seems to have matched his shirt to his trousers. Nutty, in a 1960s way, but still a step too far

I agree with you re: Tom Ford and Francis Ford Coppola. I also very much like that blog post and am glad you introduced me to it - the vintage images are very welcome. I wonder if he's seen my own bow tie posts

What about Hackett? I don't know if you recall my black tie ensemble of last summer, but I think that bow is a very serviceable size in both width and height. Of course, I don't know who the actual maker is; either way, I have another one in black with white pindots that I plan to sell on

Something I have often noticed about your fits - your suit trousers are not particularly slim-cut, yet you have the trousers cut really short. I've seen this less-than-no-break style look OK on very slim-cut suit trousers (a colleague of mine sports it and gets away with it) but in your case I can't help feeling a modicum of break would be a huge improvement.

This was NDW's suit at one point. He has shorter arms and legs than I do. I did not have the sleeves or the hem of the pants done. These actually fall a little lower normally, but I had the adjusters cranked in to hold them up a bit more. I am not a fan of the break, although sometimes I have some (usually where I asked for none, and got some anyway. ). I do get your point though.
