OK, so a long time ago, before I finished my second degree, my brother in law said he would buy me a watch when I graduate. Actually, he said he would buy me a Tag Heuer. I bugged him about it as the years ticked away and now the time has come. I am insistent that they do not get me anything nearly this extravagant. But, as time passes it seems like I have the choice of relying on my own taste theirs. So here I am. I am open to suggestions for any amount of money less. If I could provide them with a watch that is "something special" for much less I would be happy.

Details:
-Live in Canada. Can probably do mail order as prices seem just that much different. Suggestions?
-New in box with some kind of warranty only. (as I will not be the one purchasing it and do not want to send them on a goose chase)

-I have a Seiko rubber band diver, a Tissot Titanium like this http://www.watcheseller.net/Limg/Tissot_6123.jpg just not a chrono, a Skagen (http://www.skagen.com/item/331XLSL1.fx), and this Tissot (http://www.kenmarwatches.com/images/...ssot_45222.jpg)

I will be in suits M-F and would not mind something for daily wear.

I have viewed the other threads, but thought, what the hey, I will ask others and see what comes up.

I really do not have a preference of style, but probably leather strapped and more on the classic side of things.

Right now the suggestion from them is this: http://www.watchclick.com/tag-heuer/...-men-2185.html

Thanks,

I don't know a ton of watches in that price range... but I can tell you that Tag is notorious for being overpriced, and not always of the highest quality. But that is just me reproducing what others have said, so I couldn't back that up

^^^Ya, I think it may be a similar to Boss suits. I have nothing to base my thoughts about the brand on other than what I have read here. I like the one I posted, but am not sold on the TH brand, as it seems like the, well, Boss suit. Looks good, of a quality that may or may not make a difference depending on use, and the go to first "nice suit". In short, I guess I have some negative connotations of the brand and would be just as happy (if not more) with a watch that people do not recognize as a expensive (relative to many people) watch.

Thanks for the suggestion. The one Tissot I have is about that plain, so I could spice it up a bit. But, in all seriousness, suggestions in this price range are A OK with me.

Getting watch in this range can be dangerous. My rule of thumb is either below $500 MSPR, or above $5000 MSPR, or else you really need to know what you are doing.

Why do you say that? What do I need to know? I suppose that is why I am asking the question. Also, like I said, I am happy with the suggestion around $500. Looks like the Tissot PRC200 might be an option at that price.

^^^ +1

I am really appreciating Stowa lately. Watches start at around $750 and go to about $1200. Now that the euro's in the dumpster, it's a better time than ever to buy.

Antea for dressy, Marine Original for casual (but beware the large face) -- both are classic designs.

That Stowa Marine is lush and would be my purchase at your price point.

Just so you know, there is a waiting period with Stowa's (around 6 weeks if I'm not mistaken)

Take a look at Nomos watches. Classic stuff. I bought one, Stowa was my second choice.

There is a jeweler in Winnipeg who carries Nomos ([email protected]), which will save you the shock of customs duties. They are very helpful if you email them.

You can get really nice Sinn watches at this price range. They are mostly sports watches, but I would say they are classic sports watches, which will not go out of style.

Sounds like you already have sporty watches. If you're going to wear a suit every day, you probably want a dress watch. Nomos and Stowa are always good choices.

I personally like the Longines Master line very much in that price range. Some examples:

I have that last one
