Looks like I'm going with the tagged 32s! Thanks guys and wish me luck... hate having a nice pair of denim in front of me that can't be worn because of fit

EDIT: Forgot to say that I'm hemming these quite a bit to about32-33" pre-soak since I'm somewhat short. So will that give me a huge leg opening that needs tapering?

no, 201s are straight with a slight 1" taper from knee to hem. just make sure you give a clear instruction on hemming__ indicate raw/"pre-soak" :: or "after wash" wherein they will put in shrinkage allowance upon hemming.

Thanks for your help guys... I think the last question I have before ordering is, how much shrinkage are you guys seeing? 2 inches?

It's been mentioned a bunch on here already, plus BIG says how much they will shrink on their site. But it will only shrink an inch.

Yeah on BiG it says 1.5" but others say 1" and then some other retailer says 2.5" lol

2.5" is crazy. There's no way that is happening. They are partially sanforized. And when I was at BIG buying them Gordon told me an inch. So just say 1-1.5". A half inch isn't going to make a difference.

I am dying to know what other owners have experiences in waist stretch though (in actual inches). I have the 0501's in the 15.7 wt. denim.

Will be breaking in a very snug waisted pair soon, and want to know if the bruises and falsetto voice will be worth it...

It was for me. Mine seriously fit so well... I got bruises (no falsetto... Thankfully) and really thought I was about to die (I could tell they were dense and wasn't confident I could stretch them enough). A couple months on and I love the fit - they've moulded to my body perfectly. I'll never need a belt.

As far as I can tell, if you MAKE them stretch, they will. It'll take some work though. Soaking helped a lot as heaps of starch came out and they softened up.

Besides BiG, the only other store that mentions Momotaro is Context - apparently "coming soon"

Thanks Doc. Put my 30 waist 0701's up on EBay yesterday with a decent price reduction. Decided not to wear, so will sell and size up on the next ones.

These are definitely worth the price. FYI - Context says they expect stock on Momotaro some time in September.

I bought mlyngard's jeans and I just soaked them. Pre-soak, they measured pretty identical to BiG's provided numbers for a size 29 except I got ~10.5 for the thigh.

Post-soak:
Waist 14.75"
Inseam: 30.5" from 31.5"
Thigh: 10" (to edge, not seam)
Rise: 9"
Leg opening: 7.75" across, 7" seam to seam

They fit exactly how I wanted, very similar to my lightweight RB23's. The waist needs to strech .5 before I can do the top button but I already love these jeans. I'll take some pics tonight, the workmanship is really top-notch.

Just a heads up to say Context have now got Momotaro's in stock. Not on the website yet (will be uploaded this week) but can be ordered via email or phone.
  1. Going To Battle Tight Straight - the only one that is actually slim fitting (despite the names)
  2. Vintage Label Slim Straight - full fit straight leg
  3. Vintage Label Tight Straight - standard men's straight leg cut (similar to Jean Shop Rocker)
Prices: All $285 (BiG's prices are $260 on the 0701 and the 0201). All this info was in an email they sent me. They seem to have different names, but the fit descriptions sound similar to BiG's models. No idea whether they're actually different cuts.

The slim straights are the 0201's. The tight straights are the 0701's.

Thanks for that. I thought it might be the case. That'd be the "going to battle" model which is the 0701... Since there is a vintage "tight straight" as well.

Shame. I thought they'd be cheaper than BiG for some reason. BiG are getting a restock first week of November (sold out of the popular sizes in the 0201).

Context always seems to be just a little bit more expensive, but nothing big. If your spending 275 on jeans, and extra 10 bucks isn't a big deal. I really wish Momotaro would stop doing the pink inseam, because they would be perfect.
