Same. I couldn't pass up the 250 pc for only 175--especially since just down the mall hall the GAP and Express versions, and even the Ralph Lauren, looked like utter crap for nearly the same price.

In spite of the BR hate around here, I think BR is exceptional in the area of outerwear, especially for the price. $180 is not bad for a trim overcoat like that. The thing about BR's outerwear, too, is that it's trim without feeling supermodel tight. Let's me feel like I can have that extra pint in the evening without worrying if that middle button will close.

Repeating what I said in the brand comparison thread, I've had very good luck with Banana Republic outerwear. My more casual winter coat is from BR and I've been wearing it for 4 years now and it looks as good as new. The construction and materials appear to be very good.

Really wished I'd picked up one of the lighter BR trenches earlier this fall. Can't find them now.

i just got a Marc by Marc Jacobs navy peacoat which is pretty decadent and awesome. made in usa/ wool/cotton.
however it is pretty thick and angular so it although is casual, it is a very dressy casual look relegated to only cold winter/fall days.

i need to pick up a more versatile jacket/coat, but my favorite color is navy blue or brown for a coat/jacket, and the only thing i can find right now is a

Loden Dager 4 pocket field jacket (this jacket is perhaps one of the most awesome field jackets i have ever seen/felt/worn in the 600 dollar range)

sort of 3/4 length like the MJ peacoat, it is same color but has a different cut and look about it. obviously it is thinner and i can use it for dress and for work.

but it is 600 dollars. i cant buy it now. i will have to wait for it to go on its 40% off perhaps. is it worth it to buy another $300 jacket that is very similar to one you have already?

got a pic of the Loden Dager field jacket? I couldn't find it at Tobi. I think it would be worth it for the non freezing nights esp since it's brown opposed to the black of your peacoat.

Loden dager jacket is $600? Even on sale I'd say pass if you're forcing any purchase you don't like. If I can't find something that meets my expectations I never buy.

You could always go for a cheaper and more casual pea coat. Or how about some kind of short zip jacket or even a car coat/top coat thing? Either option should be attainable for under 100 and surely under 200.

^ Love that tweed! The top pics is nice and the herringbone in the middle is cool too. I'm not really a fan of elbow patches either.

Get the grey one.

I've been tempted to incorporate madras into my wardrobe for a long while, but I don't know about the vest. Maybe it's just the oncoming winter, but I keep thinking "holiday-party" when I look at it. I don't think you could wear anything other than white, British khaki, or navy to pull off the madras vest look in another context.

You'd get a lot more mileage out of the grey one.

I know, I'm thinking the same exact thing about the madras. The grey one is a Grey Herringbone Wool vest, so that one's more for the colder climate too. I just think that madras one would be great for a holiday party, I'm a school now but when I go home I can already think of more than a few situations where I could wear the madras, or the other one.
