I had my eyes set on an antique pair of turqoise cufflinks and someone else outbid me. Ugh. It took a long time to even find the kind I liked and now it's gone

Someone emailed me this from Etsy so I assume you two are both reading the same Digg-like site. Frankly, I think they're terrible. They're not steampunk in anyway as the seller claims. Plus they're gigantic (2/3 inch, 20 mm) and one-sided. Perhaps the most important reason why double-sided links are superiour is that it places a limitation on how large each side can be. Any jackass can find a huge cog wheel, coin, subway token, etc. and solder on a toggle and call it a cuff link.

Ah, very interesting. Are you ready for 2012?

I've been wanting a pair of turquoise cufflinks for a while and ran across these last weekend. Somehow, they managed to follow me home.

Here are some odds and ends I've picked up recently from EBay.

New links. I like the button feature. They are a bit worn, though.

Here's a new tie bar. Thoughts? Is it genuine art deco-era?

Finally, there's this. What is it? It was advertised as a tie clasp. It's waaaay too small. It's about the size of one snap cufflink (length and width). Lapel pin of sorts? What is it?

I just bought these on eBay, they were taged antique instead of vintage which might have made them under the radar just a bit...14 K w/diamonds.

I got bored this weekend. Since I have immense trouble finding double-sided cufflinks, I decided to make my own. I raided the wife's button box and, with some brass rings and pliers, I produced these in about 10 minutes.

My latest and last (well, for now) stud box. This one went a bit higher than I wanted, but I couldn't resist. It was made in England for Saks. I believe it's pigskin, and it has a suede interior. I'm very pleased with it.

I see those from time to time but the sayings always scare me away. Should I be more secure in my manhood?

Nice. In some of the bigger cities there are sewing notions/dressmakers supply stores that carry a selection of beautiful buttons, In some cases they are vintage as well as beautiful. Well done Dreamer.

I think it's a button cover. You slide it over a cuff button to decorate the button and make it appear as if you have a link.

Good work! Self-made cufflinks competition, anyone?
