I'll probably drink these over the next week or two. At a liquor store with a good individually bottled beer selection i went with some old favorites and a few new ones i wanted to try.

****, I wish my local sell individual bottles. I prefer the Ommegang Three Philosophers to the Abey Ale, but nice selection nevertheless. Speaking of which, thanks for reminding me to visit the Ommegang brewery in the near future.

I got these in orlando and saw it there but this was cheaper . I'll go with 3philosophers next time. Individual bottles are great. Especially when some stores have them priced about the same as if you bought the whole pack. I picked up a 4 pack of the dogfishhead peach brew today as it was only $4 for a 4pack. Hell, even if i don't like it, i'll look like a gentlemen giving the rest to guests. edit: that dogfish head peach thing is disgusting. it's not beer but malt beverage and tastes like asshole. don't buy it

I went to a great small beer bar in gainesville, stubbies, last night with a friend. About 300 beers with proper glassware and a friendly knowledgeable lady working.

-I had a Vichtenaar (sour ale by the same company and similar to duchesse de burgnone).
-Old Rasputin Imperial Stout was on tap so i wanted to give it a try after seeing the pic Alf posted last page. I'm normally not a big fan of the super heavy stouts but i did enjoy it.
-Ommegang Three Philosophers i split with a friend and was absolutely lovely. I need to get another one of those soon. One of my new favorite beers. A US brewed belgian style ale with 2%cherry lambic. Fruity, but not overly so and was balanced out with a more earthy flavor.

They have a challenge where if you try every beer on their main menu (250ish) over time. I wish i was going to be in gainesville long enough to give it a try.


If anyone is driving through the gainesville area, drop me a line and we can grab a beer.

I'm jealous! How did you like the Vichtenaar?

Really liked it. Maybe more so than the duchesse. The lady said she's getting more red/sour ales soon as well and that's she's excited about them.

I saw a now hiring sign in there and might try to take them up on that. It'd only be nights cleaning glassware, stocking the beers, cleaning and such but why not.

Hearing about Stubbie's makes me miss Gainesville something fierce. It's probably the one establishment I miss the most (Nelly's and Flaco's are close a close second and third). I would jump at the chance to work there if I were you. You'll leave with an invaluable education in beer it would take you years to cultivate on your own. The patrons are a cut above most other Gaineville bars, they even play decent music. Never mind the discount. My last semester at school my roommates and I went to Stubbie's, Nelly's, and Flacos, in that order, at some point over the weekend about 95% of the time.

I didn't know there was a discount. Hmm.....

I actually went back there tonight with some friends but the lady who i was talking to a bunch last time wasn't up front so i'll talk to her next time i'm there. Tonight i tried Chimay Blue and Rogue Juniper Ale. I didn't really like either that much. You win some you lose some.

Flaco's is absolutely fantastic. I actually had it for lunch today. Cuban gator and a guava/cheese pastry. So delicious.


My order seems to be stubbie's for a beer or two, the top for the scene and because i have friends who go there and then flaco's for a latetime pastry or empanada. The guy there is nice and knows me so he'll sometimes throw me a free pastry or something.

Yes, the Peach thing by Dogfish Head is nasty.

Lately my go-to beer has been Yuengling. My fridge also has Sam winter in there.

That new Rising Moon blue moon spring ale is disgusting. I don't even like blue moon much these days, but this is much worse in my opinion. I'd steer clear if i were you, even if you drink blue moon. My friends actually don't like it either but maybe it's just us. Just a PSA

Nice to see DdB getting some love. It's definitely one of my favourite beers, if not my favourite. I can't get it over here unfortunately, so have to look for alternatives. I can't remember the last time I had a beer which I thought would make it into my top 5 or even 10. Even the microbreweries here are pretty standard and not too interesting. Although Emersons have a small run on at the moment of a red ale that looks interesting.

I drank some Tyskie last night which is a horrible polish beer.

I had the 60th anniversary version of the St. Bernardus Abt 12, and its the best beer I've ever had. Apparently not too different from the regular version pictured below. Try it if you ever see it.
