So when I was struggling as a freelance translator, I could have billed myself as an "independent business localization consultant." Oh, the opportunities missed!

I had a friend once whose father had wrote a very successful college text book that was used in a lot of universities around the world, so the kid was pretty well set up. his parents used to heap huge amounts of unwarrented praise on him - I was at lunch once at his house and he had made some soup, and his mother kept on and on about how great the soup was "oh, this is the best soup I have ever eaten, you could open up a resteraunt and make a fortune with this soup, you could sell the recipe to cambells and make a fortune, this is the best soup ever, etc"

anyway, he is in his forties and has never really worked - when I knew him well in his twienties, every few months he would reinvent himself - he called himself a "screen writer" for a few months, or an "author" or he would say he was in real estate, but he was always in the "research" stage of the project. since he had a bmw and a cell phone, way back then, people assumed that he was a successful "X" what ever he was at the time.

Hmmm.

If he went to the University of Pennsylvania (even just to take a few classes), wouldn't he refer to it as UPenn?

"Penn" is Penn State, isn't it?

No, Penn students refer to The University of Pennsylvania as "Penn" (I work on campus). Then they get very annoyed when they tell people they "go to Penn" and those people say, "Oh, you must be a big football fan, then."

When I was there we had shirts with the (Penn) school crest, featuring the words "NOT PENN STATE".

Don't worry, it didn't get this guy any either. This whole mess started when he was shot down on an internet dating site and had a bitchfest about

Still, can't you see the potential of putting this headline on one of Wharton's brochures?
