Does anyone have any user-taken pics of the Vass R-last (I've seen the pics in the Vass catalog)? I'm finally giving in to purchasing a classic black oxford and was thinking of special ordering it like this: Old English Plain Black Cordovan R Last Single Leather Sole Another less expensive option I've been considering is the Alden 9071 (also in black cordovan): As you can tell I'm really starting to like cordovan b/c of its durability and the way that it ages. Thanks in advance for any advice.

I didn't know you could get a plain black cap bal from Alden in shell cordovan. Where do you see that? It wasn't on AoC or their webpage.

I've been holding out for the same shoe.. if I'm going to get one, might as well be one to last the ages.

Perfect...thanks AS. The last definitely has that classic look I'm after for this shoe.

The lack of antiquing doesn't matter at all to me as I've come to prefer the natural patina that develops over time.

I don't yet own any Vass, but as far as the calf being somehow inferior to that of EG...I doubt that very much. From everything I've ever read about Vass your shoe could easily be considered in the same league as EG/JL.

The Alden shoes look better to me, although they have a professional pic in your example with a better angle. I would go with the shell anyway, I don't think anyone who has a pair of shell leather shoes regrets them.

I'm definitely liking the Hampton last on the Alden. Here's a shot of it on the Leather Soul website (in calf).

I have the black shell version of these (Aldens) and have been very happy with them. I'm planning on picking up a pair in Cigar next. The Hampton last is a good fit on me as well.

Thanks yachtie. I think I'm going to go with the Alden. I think it makes sense to use a classic company like Alden for a classic shoe like a black cap toe.

Personally, I would take the F over the R as it is a much sleeker shoe. I saw the F in person and it looks much sleeker in real life than it does in photos.
