The Alden dye doesn't bother me because I think it adds some depth to the standard No. 8 shell cordovan. What irks me is the finishing and the quality control. I have 6 pairs of Alden shell shoes and I have had issues with 4 that should have been caught before the shoes left the factory. Maybe they can't handle the volume that being the igent fav creates.

I did like the pebble grain and the style as a whole, but I just need double soles & exposed welts (it's my illness/ addiction). With a stroke of luck, these fell into my lap.

NOS Florsheim imperial Custom Order Apron Toes. Definitely not the same shoe as the Dover, but I think it's the Dover's tougher and grizzled "grandfather".

fUgly fugly fugly !
but strangely compelling and quite awesome, like 80 gun ships of the line. The colour contrast is intriguing too.
Keep them coming issinryu, your posts are a highlight of the thread.

On one of the threads I recently read, I saw some pics of "perforated" shoes by Vass & John Lobb. Great for summer, or so it seems. While I can't get into the "perforated" shoes, I DO like vintage Ventilated shoes, which serve the same purpose- to keep your feet cool in the warm months.

Edwin Clapp Ventilated Spectators, in Ostrich Skin & Mesh. Of course I needed SOME kind of exotic skin in order to buy them. New-Old-Stock, although the heels are disintegrating somewhat & will need to be replaced.

When I see nice shoes from the past, I often wonder what did the owner's clothing look like?
He must have been a sharp dude to have worn those shoe over 50 years ago?

HA! I LOVE the classy posters. You can always tell when mama taught the young boys well... and when she didn't. Thanks for posting.

You gotta be honest, the shoes do look as if they've got smallpox! Nice 'bandage' on the vamp.
