Really? To me the Bellagio actually looks horrendously cheap. The finish on areas where people don't look is incredibly bad. We were in a big suite overlooking the strip and if you look down to the roof it's so ugly, it looks like an industrial building. Everything is a facade, no attention to detail. Everyone that faces the strip can see this. They don't even bother to put plants. The put a few Cedars on pedestals for the people in the "villas" so they think they're a forrest behind their pool. To me it's so tacky and cynical. I find the Wynn to be less offensive and I enjoy the fact that a bunch of randoms don't show up to gawk as they do with the Bellagio. I was also very let down by the dining at the Bellagio. It's probably the worst of all the "prestige" hotels. The Wynn has them beat top to bottom. The buffett was shocking, I walked in and walked out. People had told me it's the best in Vegas and I had to go once, so I did. The Cafe Bellagio is literally like a horrific airport restaurant. I couldn't believe my eyes. There's many parts of that hotel that are like a 2 star hotel. It really just sucks, I have no desire to ever go back. Even their Cirque du Soleil show is worse than the Wynn's. The service at the Bellagio is also horrific. Their concierge made reservations TWICE for places that were closed, so we showed up and the restaurant was dark. I think I'll stay at the Mandarin next time, away from the throngs.

I wouldn't go to a Cirque de Soleil show, so I can't comment. It's really all bad, but the neon butterfly and flowers theme on the walls, ceilings and floors of the Wynn are just too much for me.

I had to in order to be nice. I can't really say I enjoyed either, but La Reve was much better than O.

I saw Jerry Seinfeld at Caesars which really wasn't bad at all.

Many of the casinos have started building "upscale" hotels behind the main hotel/casino which don't have casinos in them. I usually try to stay at the Signature at MGM (even though I hate everything else about the MGM Grand). The check in/out is very quick. The cab line is non-existant. The rooms are nothing special but are nicer than the rooms at the main hotel and the prices are usually pretty competitive. Take a look at the Signature at MGM or "theHotel" at Mandalay Bay.

I REALLY hate (I mean HATE) the upscaling of Vegas over the last 10-15 years. Vegas used to be trashy and crude and tacky. I miss that. I usually stay downtown which is the only place you can approach that anymore.

I remember sitting in the casino at the Golden Nugget watching a mobbed-up scumbag in a purple suit with stacks of rubber-banded $100's laying on the Baccarat table. He was screaming profanities at the dealer and ripping up the cards when he lost (which apparently is permitted in Baccarat). Eventually the pit boss had to come over and have a chat. There were a couple of minutes there where I wondered if he was going to pull out a gun and start shooting. It was so cool (in a disgusting, sleasy kind of way).

You people with your fancy-schmantsy tastes are ******* up the place.

I was the MGM twice for restaurants. I have to say that it may just be the ugliest building I've ever seen.

I'm pretty sure you can still see that part of Vegas if you go to Treasure Island or Circus Circus. In fact I find the Bellagio to be quite tacky and crude.

I find the Bellagio and Wynn much the same. If you want boutique and sophisticated style, Vegas isn't it.
You're right about the view from the Bellagio rooms. But, the Wynn to me looks like a whore's breakfast.

But, for what it is, and for your parties, it can be lots of fun.

Later next week, however, is not a lot of fun. 4 days of hell, actually.

Agreed. Fortunately the Signature towers are separate and bear no resemblance.

I stayed at Vedera recently for a night. Its nice and relatively understated, no casino either. I think it meets your criteria, but again, I was only in-town for one night for a meeting so I really didn't focus too much on the hotel.
