The Best/As Close to Perfect Foods

During the little chat on overrated foods, I saw a few things mentioned that I didn't recognize (I actually knew balut). A few of said things were praised as being perfect or damn near perfect. I'd like to see the opposite end of the spectrum, with people dropping names and a bit of information on the perfect foods (and necessary pairings perhaps?).

For example: truffles. I'm about to google this as I have no clue wtf these are, and yet they got some pretty mean hype.

If there any conditions that are necessary for said food stuff to live up to their claims, please mention them.

Yup. Also ocietre caviar, Iberico ham, superripe tomatoes, fresh black truffles (OK, white as well,) giant asparagus.

We used to grow tomatoes on a plot of land in a suburb of Hartford they were great. My grandfather had 9 sons, he had to resort to growing his own food. How similar or dissimilar is Iberico ham from prosciutto.

i'll second that, too. Also, Dungeness crab. Also, backyard tomatoes. really good freshly made corn tortillas. speaking of which, grilled corn. robuchon mashed potatoes. panna cotta. prosciutto. jamon. salumi in general ... F***, it's almost lunch and i'm on deadline.

Is there an entry level foie and ice wine/sauternes combo? Like college student trying to experience foods that might otherwise have gone unnoticed entry price. Or is this one of those things where I might as well suck it up and go balls out because it won't be worth it otherwise? What about for truffles? I wasn't expecting the price/lb that I saw when I looked it up. Osetra caviar is running about $50/oz from the looks of it. Is this again one of those things that should be done, or is there a plebeian version? Thanks for all of the input, yall! Edit
