What to wear with patterned tweed trousers?

I'm a bit infatuated with Cordings' overchecked tweed trousers. I can easily see them paired with a thick wool sweater and no jacket. But if I would want to wear a jacket, what would I use?

The only jackets I have of a similar weight and character are already tweed, but it would probably seem too busy to wear two different tweeds together. I have no problem using tweed jackets with denim trousers, but a denim jacket with tweed trousers would look odd. One could always buy the Cordings jacket and waistcoat in the same tweed, for that English lord-of-the-manor look, but I'm not sure I can pull that off. At least not until some unknown aunt leaves me the manor to go with the suit.

Tweed jacket with corduroy trousers works. How about corduroy jacket with tweed trousers? Or some other fabric that is obviously heavy and textured and informal but still contrasts with the tweed?

I'd likely go for corduroy or moleskin in a jacket.

The coolest option would be to get the suit, of course, but I'll acknowledge that even I'm not sure I could pull it off.

EDIT: That said, in the now-gone Coherent Combinations thread, Vox suggested never wearing patterned trousers with a country-ish odd jacket -- which would mean cord jacket with tweed trou is right out. He knows better than me, of course, but I think a brown or navy cord jacket could work with the right tweed. There's also the possibility that I misunderstood.

Too bad I can no longer see the context of that recommendation. It seems like it may have been an interesting thread.

I'm thinking the ideal may be some plain-coloured but obviously heavy wool or cashmere, possibly only very discretely textured (like a herringbone weave seen only up close). It should have weight enough to balance the trousers but be plain enough to create needed contrast.

I'll continue to consider the suit option, but I would need to find a way to wear it that takes the edge off the wannabe Lord Grantham look.

That's not a bad idea. Tan camel hair could work with the right tweed, as could some kind of countryish iteration of a navy blazer. Navy cord, or navy doeskin with leather buttons.

Interested in hearing other’s opinions.

I only ever wear heavy wool sweaters with my patterned tweed trousers.

Wasn’t sure if it could work with a non-matching jacket

A solid jacket in the appropriate color should work.
That includes corduroy.

Tweeds trousers are a very difficult one to make work with coats,
but a peacoat works.
Thick sweaters work well,
and moleskin could work too.

Tweed trousers are wonderful to wear but so limited in how they can be paired.

As said above, the classic combination would be with a corduroy sport coat, as a tweed jacket goes excellently with cord trousers, the reverse is true as well.
Of course, already said above, a peacoat or a chunky shawl collar cardigan would also make for a lovely outfit.
